Avocado toast is a staple in many people’s lives. But I’ve had enough disappointing avocado toasts out at cafes and diners to know that not all toasts are created equal…or with flavor…

The trick? Season your bread AND your avocado. 

SEASON YOUR BREAD

Seasoning your bread is a must for any sandwich or toast. Lightly drizzle lemon (or vinegar), salt, and pepper on the bread. It makes a world of difference for the flavor. For avocado toast, I always go for lemon.

SEASON YOUR AVOCADO

For a flavorful avocado toast the bread is not the only thing that should be seasoned. After you smash down your avocado, make sure you season that as well. Another round of lemon juice, salt, and pepper will do the trick. For this avocado toast I went for everything bagel seasoning and cayenne in lieu of the salt and pepper, which brings a punch of flavor to the table!

MAKE IT YOUR

Sky is the limit for additions for an avocado toast. Some suggestions I tend to reach for are pickled red onion, cilantro or basil, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, or sriracha.

Avocado Toast

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1/2 lemon
  • cayenne pepper to taste
  • salt to taste
  • everything bagel seasoning to taste

Instructions
 

  • Toast your bread
  • Squeeze light amount of juice from lemon over the bread
  • Sprinkle a pinch of salt and cayenne pepper on bread
  • Slice avocado long ways so you can fan it out on bread
  • Put avocado on bread and smash with a fork
  • Season avocado with lemon juice, salt, cayenne pepper, and everything bagel seasoning to tast
  • Serve!
