This Gochujang Five Spice sauce is heavy on the garlic, slightly sweet, perfectly spicy, and has a deliciously complex flavor, due to its main ingredients, Gochujang and five spice.

It’s comforting, complex flavor is an amazing addition to many dishes.
what is five spice
Chinese five spice is a blend of spices that is predominantly used in Chinese cuisine. The name five spice, refers to the five flavors of spice, which are sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and savory. Although there are many variations, you will most likely find the combination of star anise, Chinese cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, cloves, and fennel seeds on store shelves.
If used correctly, this spice blend is MAGIC. Using five spice correctly is the key, this stuff if strong and will take over a dish, so easy does it. It’s the perfectly balanced companion to bring so much complexity and flavor to any dish, but you don’t want to add too much and make your whole meal taste like five spice!
For this sauce, the marriage of Gochujang and five spice is perfectly balance and simply divine. Match made in heaven!
