Jump to RecipeThese vegan waffle sliders with rosemary maple are an excellent way to start your day! They are sweet, they are savory, and they are absolutely adorable. Why is everything so much cuter when its tiny?!
These waffle sliders are super easy to make as well! You can whip them up in about 15-20, making them a convenient, super fun way to kick off the day and wow your family. They are also excellent for a brunch gathering or as a potluck finger food.
ROSEMARY MAPLE SYRUP
Rosemary and maple syrup is a combination of flavors that you didn’t know you were missing. The unique, sweet flavor of maple syrup combined with fresh savory rosemary is sooooo good! This combo is killer in the fall, but I love it so much I can’t help but to use it all year round and in as many ways as possible. It really elevates a dish to a more gourmet level.
Rosemary maple syrup is super simple to make and can be made in larger batches and stored for your convenience. Simply heat up maple syrup with a bit of water. Add fresh rosemary and allow to simmer until the water is cooked off and the rosemary flavor has infused. To finish it off, add a touch of nutmeg and a pinch of salt.
MINI WAFFLES
Now of course you can make your mini waffles from scratch, but for this recipe I did not. Sometimes convenience is key and there is no need to take those extra steps. For this recipe I went with frozen mini waffles from Whole Foods. They are absolutely adorable, flavorful, and best of all, super convenient.
VEGAN BREAKFAST SAUSAGE
Gone are the days of tasteless vegan meat alternatives. There are many amazing options on the store shelves for vegan meat alternatives that taste incredibly like the meat they are trying to mimic! For this recipe I went with Whole Foods vegan sausage patties. They are super delicious and have a great texture. Plus when cut into fourths they are the perfect size for these waffle sliders!
NOT INTO FAKE MEAT?
Now vegan meat alternatives, although delicious and rich in protein, are, at the end of the day, a processed food. So if you are trying to avoid processed ingredients, oils or extra fats, you can skip the vegan meat and swap it out for veggies, tofu, tempe, or coconut bacon.Â
Mushrooms would be my vegetable of choice if making the swap. Their meaty texture and ability to absorb flavor makes them a great alternative to meat.
Looking to replace the protein? Swap out the vegan meat for tofu or tempe! Check out my recipe for smokey tempeh.
WAFFLE SLIDERS WITH ROSEMARY MAPLE
Ingredients
- 32 mini waffles makes 16 mini sliders
- 4 vegan sausage patties, cut into fourths
- 1 apple, thinly sliced
ROSEMARY MAPLE SYRUP
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 fresh rosemary sprigs
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/16 tsp salt more or less to taste
Instructions
ROSEMARY MAPLE SYRUP
- Combine all ingredients for rosemary maple syrup in a non-stick skillet
- Cook over medium-low heat until reduced slightly. About 5 minutes
- Syrup cook out water and will be slightly thicker than maple syrup, but make it too thick!
- Remove rosemary from maple syrup
- Set syrup aside in a bowl for dipping
PREP OTHER ELEMENTS
- Toast waffles in air-fryer or in toaster
- Cook vegan breakfast sausage in air-fryer for about 8 minutes on high or until browned. Don't have an air-fryer, cook sausage on a skillet over medium heat until browned.
- Once sausage is cooked, place on cutting board and cut into fourths. Set aside.
- Thinly slice apples. Set aside
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
- Lay out half of the waffles on a flat surface
- Top each with slices of apple
- Top with sausage
- Put on the other waffle to complete the sandwich
- If desired, stick a pick through each waffle. I didn't find this overly necessary though, it's easy to hold them without it.
- Serve and enjoy!
