Green apple is the star of this smoothie. Apples are not only refreshing and delicious, they also can help improve digestive health and heart health. They are also a good source of vitamin A,C, iron, and calcium.
SPINACH
I do my best to add greens to smoothies whenever possible. Out of all of the greens I feel like spinach offers the most neutral flavor, but it is packed with nutrients. Amongst many nutrients, spinach is a great source of folic acid, iron, and calcium. Plus it adds a fun green color to your green apple smoothie!
BANANA
Make sure you freeze your bananas. I always buy a big bunch of bananas at the beginning of the week, peel them, and pop them in the freezer for easy use. Freezing your bananas makes the smoothie creamier and obviously colder. Plus it’s a great natural sweetener and helps keep you fuller for longer.
OATS
I love to add a bit of instant oats to my smoothies. They add fiber, protein, and iron to the smoothie. But most importantly it keeps you fuller for longer. I feel like the addition of oats can be the difference between getting hungry at 10am or making it to lunch without my stomach growling.
LEMON
Lemon is a MUST in smoothies that are fruit based! Whenever you make a smoothie and something is missing…it’s most likely lemon. Lemon brightens flavors and brings that extra depth that excites your palate. Plus it’s a nice hit of vitamin C.
SUNFLOWER SEEDS
Sunflower seeds can be a great addition to any smoothie. They offer a mild, nutty flavor that punch up the complexity of a smoothie. I like to go with roasted sunflower seeds over raw because they bring even more flavor to the table. They also blend very well into a smooth consistency. Sunflower seeds are a great source of healthy fat and are high in vitamin E and selenium.
HEMP SEEDS
Hemp seeds are an amazing addition to any meal! Due to their nutrients, they are beneficial for brain and nerve health. They are high in healthy fats, especially omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for mental health and brain development. I personally toss them into all of my smoothies whenever I have them on hand.
DATES
Dates are an excellent way to add a bit more sweetness to a smoothie and add a bit of a caramel flavor. Amongst many health benefits, dates are a good source of copper, manganese, and potassium.
CINNAMON
Cinnamon can add warmth and complexity to your smoothies. It also makes smoothies feel more like a dessert. Cinnamon is also loaded with antioxidants and contains anti-inflammatory properties.
