How to make air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries
Making air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries is incredibly simple and only requires 3 ingredients! To make air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries, all you need is Japanese sweet potatoes, of course, oil, and sea salt (which you could skip if you want)….that’s it!
To make air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries, simply wash and cut Japanese sweet potato into strips. I personally like to go with a bit of a thinner strip, about 1/4 inch thick. I find this size allows the inside to get nice and soft and the outside to get nice and crispy, but not burnt.
Once you have cut your Japanese sweet potatoes into the size fries you desire, it’s time to coat them with oil. When you are making air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries, you want to use an oil with a high smoke point, such as avocado oil, sesame oil, or canola oil. This will allow you to air fryer your Japanese sweet potatoes for a while, without burning the oil, which would cause a funky flavor.
Evenly coat your Japanese sweet potato fries with oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. Then toss them in your preheated air fryer. Air fry your purple Japanese sweet potatoes for around 15 minutes at 400 degrees, flipping them at the half way mark. If you cut your Japanese sweet potato into thicker wedges, your cooking time may be closer to 20 minutes, so adjust if needed.
Your air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries will be done when the outside is crispy and darker and the inside is soft and tender.
Tip for air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries: Do not over lap your Japanese sweet potato fries in the air fryer. If you have a small air fryer this may be tempting, but it will result in uneven cooking. Cook your air fryer Japanese sweet potato fries in batches if needed.
