HAWAIIAN PIZZA WITH COCONUT “BACON”
Vegan Hawaiian Pizza topped with coconut “bacon”, vegan mozzarella, pineapple, and red onion.
Jump to RecipePizza is amazing, but for the longest time we skipped out on it due to the loads of cheese and grease most pizzas have to offer. We have become more spoiled throughout the years with new vegan pizza places popping up and more frozen plant-based pizzas hitting the store shelves.
Before all of these delicious, new options became available, we turned to making our own pizza creations at home to satisfy our cravings. Despite vegan pizza becoming easier to come by, we still love to create our own at home most of the time. You can control the toppings, the amount of grease and cheese, and you can load it up with protein and veggies if you desire! Making pizza for dinner a satisfying, delicious, AND a nutrient dense meal!
In our household, Hawaiian Pizza was often a go-to because it’s my daughter’s favorite pie. So for this recipe I recreated it.
Made with a thin crust, vegan mozzarella, and pizza sauce…then topped with fresh pineapple, red onion, and house-made coconut “bacon”, this vegan Hawaiian Pizza is a dream!
THE CRUST
You are welcome to make your own crust. But most days I do not have the time to be a hero about it. Luckily there are plenty of options on the store shelves. Our go-to is Rustic White Pizza Crust from Whole Foods. It’s super tasty, thin, crispy and best of all…super light. I highly recommend it!
THE SAUCE
As I stated for the sauce, you are more than welcome to make your sauce from scratch. But time is precious and there are delicious options on the store shelves. My go-to is often the one from Whole Foods. It’s packed with flavor and there is no extra sugar added.
THE COCONUT BACON
Hawaiian Pizza is traditionally topped with ham. So I swapped it out for coconut “bacon”.
Coconut “bacon” is smokey, salty, savory coconut flakes that you can make in under 5 minutes on the stove top.
It’s a staple in our household for sandwiches and tofu scramble. You can make it in larger batches and have it at your finger tips all week!
The bacon flavor comes from a combination of ketchup, smoked paprika, soy sauce, and liquid smoke. Trust me, it’s amazing!
THE OTHER TOPPINGS
To follow suit with a traditional Hawaiian Pizza, I also topped with pizza with Vegan Mozzarella Cheese, fresh pineapple, and red onion. But feel free to mix things up! Adding kale or spinach is a great way to sneak in some greens and would pair well with the flavor profile. Sliced peppers or banana peppers would be great as well!
