FIVE SPICE TOFU TACO
Vegan taco stuffed with spicy five spice tofu crumble, Asian red pepper slaw, fresh sliced avocado, green onion

- 12 corn tortillas can substitute any small tortilla
- 1 avocado
- 2 sprigs of green onion
- 1 cup kimchi optional, but delicious
FIVE SPICE TOFU CRUMBLE
- 1 block of tofu
- 1/4 onion
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp Chinese cooking wine can substitute Marsala wine
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 2 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp chili oil
- 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 1/4 tsp five spice
- 1/2 tbsp nori flakes
ASIAN RED PEPPER SLAW
- 2 red peppers
- 1/4 red onion
- 1/2 bundle of Napa cabbage
- 1 green onion
- 1/4 cup cilantro
- 1 clove of garlic, grated
- 1/4 inch fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp vegan mayo
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tsp sriracha
- 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 2 tsp sugar
FIVE SPICE TOFU CRUMBLE
Start by pressing your tofu
Place tofu in a tofu press or under a heavy object, such as an iron skillet for at least 10 minutes. But 30-60 minutes is even better.
**While tofu is pressing use your time wisely and prep the other elements of the dish
While the tofu is being pressed chop onion into small pieces and set aside
Combine the remaining ingredients for the "Five Spice Tofu Crumble" , except for the olive oil, in a bowl and mix until evenly combined. Set aside.
Once tofu has been pressed, remove from press
Grate the tofu and set aside
In a non-stick skillet combine olive oil and chopped onion
Cook over medium heat until onions begin to brown a bit
Add tofu and cook for another 5 minutes or until the tofu begins to brown
Add sauce to tofu and cook for another minute or two until liquid is absorbed
Remove from heat and set aside
ASIAN RED PEPPER SLAW
Chop the red onions into small pieces and soak them in cold water for at least 5 minutes
Dice red peppers into small pieces
Shred cabbage
Drain red onions and combine all in a bowl with red peppers and cabbage
Grate ginger and garlic into the bowl
Chop cilantro and green onion and add
Mix in the remaining ingredients for "Asian Red Pepper Slaw". Mix thoroughly until evenly combined
Set aside
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
Heat tortillas on a skilled
Build taco with 5 spice taco crumble, red pepper slaw, sliced avocado and green onion. Top with kimchi or more hot sauce if desired. Spicy mayo is also an excellent addition!
Serve and enjoy!
